UA Comix Publishing is a comic book (called “mal’opys”) publisher founded by Bohdan Kordoba in 2017. Based in Lviv.
Our mission is to develop the Ukrainian comic book industry. Since the company’s inception, we have been promoting Ukrainian comics in Ukraine and around the world, building a community, and empowering creators to grow and bring their most groundbreaking ideas to life.

FOUNDER

Bogdan Kordoba is a writer, poet, editor, publisher, public figure, volunteer, and graduate of the Ukrainian Academy of Printing. He was born and lives in Lviv. He has managed to grow a publishing house—which began with a single comic book, one person, and a single shelf—into one of the biggest players in the market. When he started in 2017, comics were considered a frivolous, childish pursuit, but now no one is surprised to see reputable book publishers adding comics to their portfolios. He focuses on his own product and on developing authors and artists, thanks to which nearly a hundred artists have already been able to bring their work to life in graphic novels. While businesses were closing during the pandemic, UA Comix was opening stores. During the full-scale war, Bohdan focused on volunteering, and this, of course, was reflected in the publisher’s comics, where more volunteer-created stories appeared.
UKRAINIAN IDENTITY
We believe that Ukrainian comics are awesome. Not just because they’re Ukrainian, but because our authors create high-quality, competitive works that are recognized around the world. Even a hundred years ago, Ukrainians were impressing readers on every continent—these titles became bestsellers, published by leading publishers and magazines—and Ukrainian identity was always what set these works apart from the rest. While debates rage about the primitivity of Cossacks in popular culture, we have chosen the Cossack as the main character of our story—you see him on every one of our creations—from the largest comics to the smallest stickers. We have much to be proud of. We have a heritage worth preserving. And we have a future that needs to be built.

STORIES ABOUT THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR

If we look back at history, we see that the great comic artists of years past never stood on the sidelines of important social events. Many of them were active participants in liberation movements, leaders, patrons, and advocates for the truth abroad. We, too, have never stood on the sidelines. From the very beginning, a portion of the publishing house’s profits has always been directed toward volunteer work. We created graphic novels about the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and after the full-scale invasion began, most of the team joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Those who remained continued to address these issues in their comics. Documentary series, artistic reflections, and exhibitions around the world have become testimonies and a chronicle of what we as a country are experiencing right now. This is our way of talking about what matters and communicating with the world—after all, culture and no creative industry ever remain outside of politics.
SOCIAL PROJECTS
We place special emphasis on social projects. Drawn stories, as an art form, are an effective tool for communicating with the world, and the interplay between text and illustration allows us to present and tell a story on multiple levels. Thus, we work on stories about the environment, climate change, volunteering, and history—everything that, in one way or another, helps us shape the civil society we want to see in the future.
One of the most important initiatives of the 2025 publishing house is the “Mal’opys for the Army” project. On an ongoing basis, our readers have the opportunity to purchase a comic for the military and receive a free copy for themselves. All comic books collected in this way are donated to the “Book to the Front” initiative, from where they are delivered directly to the military. You can join the initiative by ordering comic books on the website uacomix.com and checking the box “I am participating in the ‘Mal’opys for the Army’ campaign.”
